The Philadelphia Flyers 2012 First Round Pick Center Scott Laughton has been terrific since he was sent down to his junior team the Oshawa Generals in the OHL. Laughton had 3 goals (including a shorthanded game winner his second shorthanded game winner of the season already) against London in a big battle of OHL titans.
Laughton put the Generals up 2-1 with his first goal of the night, an even strength goal in the 2nd period. London tied the game with less than a minute left in the second period when center Bo Horvat, the 9th overall pick for Vancouver in the 2013 NHL draft scored. London took the lead 3-2 early in the third period when center Max Domi, the 12th overall pick for Phoenix in the 2013 draft scored on the power play.
After Michael McCarron, the Montreal Canadiens 1st Round pick in the 2013 draft drew a roughing penalty for London, Oshawa's Michael Dal Colle (one of the top prospects for the 2014 NHL draft right now) tied the game at 3-3 with a power play goal at the 6:52 mark. Just over 30 seconds later, Oshawa's Sam Harding had a delay of game penalty.
Laughton scored his 7th goal of the year a little over minute later to give Oshawa the 4-3 lead. He added an empty net goal at 19:18 of the final period to finish off the hat trick. Oshawa went on to win 5-3.
Laughton has 7 goals and 8 assists in 7 games this season. He has scored a point or more in 6 of those games and two points or more in 5 of the games.
Anthony Stolarz, the Flyers 2012 2nd Round Pick was not in net for London tonight. His backup Jake Patterson was the netminder so Stolarz remains undefeated in regulation this season. Stolarz record remains 6-0-1 while Patterson is at 1-2.
